Berlin……..
The city I had dreamed of visiting for decades because German history and architecture is fascinating and the city of Berlin played such an important and then tragic part in 20th century art, culture and history. It became an obsession for my aspirations to explore its masterpieces of art-history ever since my “Ancient Art” professor informed us that the Pergamon Museum held fabulous ancient world treasures like the Ishtar Gate and the Altar of Pergamon.
Yes, Jim and I made a pilgrimage to this famous museum, Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate and so many more tourist sites, but what we learned during our six days in Berlin, was that the city offers so many other amazing experiences too and slowly but surely, we found many of them.
Berlin is busy, gritty, modern, diverse, historical, and full of art, continually under construction, home to some of the most beautiful parks and gardens in Europe and in one word, impressive.
Six days wasn’t nearly enough time to get to know it! We have lots of travel stories coming up about this fascinating city, but I wanted to gather a few impressions of the city as an introduction. I hope you enjoy this glimpse of fab Berlin!
